Fixed Thin Film Attenuator

The attenuator consisting of thin films

YDS’s Thin Film Attenuators are miniature sized, consisting of high precision thin film and has high performance. It is allowed to be more compact and have higher performance, with having an attenuation circuit in an element. We can serve products with more excellent performance and higher density mounting than the elements consisting of combination circuit of several resistors. You can save more area in a circuit and design more easily with only one element. Various kinds of YDS’s Thin Film Attenuators are available in many different ways.

 Type

  

A: Face down attenuator PAT0510

We developed this attenuator in order to serve the smallest one in the world at a low price. It has the electrode for mounting on the top side and doesn’t have side electrodes. It is face down mounted.

B: Single type attenuator PAT1220, PAT1632, PAT3042S  

It has round wrapped electrodes as well as general chip resistors. It is the most useful attenuator with its mounting form like other chips’, standard size and performance.  

C: Double type attenuator PAT3042W, PAT34556W  

This attenuator is used in particular ways, in order to embed it in the circuit substrate with lead frame joint or to put it inside the connector. 

Application

  

This attenuator is available in a wide range of high frequency circuits such as radio communication circuit. Due to its high stability in a wide band, it is used from low frequency circuits to high, for power derating, impedance matching and preventing oscillation.

Difference 

  

This attenuator is superior to a circuit consisting of several resistors.

Less components in a circuit will make it possible to decrease area and weight on the PC board and mounting operations.

The ratios of mounted area and weight in both circuits of with three resistors and with a chip resistor are showed in the following graph.

Note: The ratios are based when assembling several resistors. Weight doesn’t include solder for attaching.

Having an in-put terminal and an out-put, and a ground in a chip attenuator, it is easier to get fine performance and to adjust to the micro strip line designed by the coefficient of the print board. By assembling with several resistors, there will be more parasitic capacitors and inductors and it is supposed that frequency characteristics will be decreasing. Moreover it is possible to simplify designing circuits with an attenuator. These below pictures show the difference.
